How To: A Step by Step Guide for Add-On Items
over 6 years ago – Thu, Oct 19, 2017 at 11:08:28 PM

Hi all!

First, we want to thank all of you who have come together in the RWBY: Combat Ready Kickstarter to bring this great game to life! It’s because of this great community that we are well on our way to the next stage of success in this campaign.

Secondly, we are closing in fast on our first Add-On Stretch Goal of the Campaign - the Collectible Villain Miniatures of Cinder Fall, Roman Torchwick, and Adam Taurus.

A new “ADD ONS” header has recently been added to the main Kickstarter page after the “PERK TIERS” heading, just before the “STRETCH GOALS”. Anything in this section can be added to an existing pledge simply by increasing the amount of your pledge by the cost of what you want to add-on.

But how do you actually add on the extra money during this Kickstarter? We’ve put together this handy dandy tutorial to help clear up any confusion!

Step 1: Click “Manage your pledge” on the main page of Kickstarter.

Step 2: Click “Change your pledge” on the next screen.

Step 3: Click on the dollar amount of your current pledge.

Step 4: Type in the new amount (pledge level amount + price of add-ons you want.)

Step 5: Confirm your changes by clicking the blue button.

Step 6: Success! You’ve added funds to your pledge for your add-ons!

We hope that helps answer any questions about how to change your pledge level to include add-ons that you want to add during the Kickstarter campaign. :)

Selecting your Items: After the campaign is over, you will be sent an email to verify you pledge in BackerKit that will allow you to select the items that you want to add. At that time, you can also add additional items to your pledge, but they will not count towards unlocking stretch goals, so we hope you will increase your pledge levels during the campaign to the amount of your pledge + desired add-ons!

If you have more questions, feel free to ask in the comments and we’ll jump in and do our best to solve them all!

Campaign Update #10 - Villain Miniatures are now available!
over 6 years ago – Wed, Oct 18, 2017 at 03:11:34 PM

Greetings all!

Our first Add-On is now available and, whew - it’s a pretty amazing one. With the support of our amazing Backers, Collectible Villain Miniatures are now available to purchase!

The Villain Miniatures are incredibly detailed at this 30mm scale. Although not integral to the gameplay of RWBY: Combat Ready, these collectible miniatures are a great Add-On Item for any fan. They can now be added to your pledge for an additional cost. Not sure how to add-on an item? Check out this handy guide!

Poses are for representation only, not an indication of final models.

For anyone who might be attending RTX London this weekend, make sure to swing by Booth #224 near Center Stage where we’ll have some demos set up of RWBY: Combat Ready!

Additionally, we wanted to emphasize something amazing for our International Backers. If you are located in the EU, Australia, or New Zealand - you DO NOT HAVE additional shipping costs! We are able to fulfill your pledges from within those regions without having to ship from Austin, TX, USA.

Keep those comments and questions coming! We love hearing from you.

Developer Update #2: Card Play!
over 6 years ago – Fri, Oct 13, 2017 at 01:10:25 PM

Hello RWBY backers!

For our second update on game development, we’re focusing on card play.

Some of you have asked, “Why not just play my highest speed card every turn?” Today we want to talk to you about the strategy involved in making good card play decisions.

As you learned from watching the How to Play video, the higher speed card “hits”, and the lower speed card “misses”. Tied speeds result in a draw, with neither card “hitting”. (See image below)

The card’s speed can be increased (or sometimes even decreased) by other factors, such as cards your team has played or special abilities. For example, Ruby’s Semblance in RWBY: Combat Ready is a built-in Dash ability which gives her a temporary speed boost. All of these bonuses are factored in to determine who has the higher speed.

Play the Lowest Speed You Can Get Away With

Most of the time, it’s much better to play a lower speed card! In fact, you almost always want to play the lowest speed card you feel you can get away with! The game was engineered this way to make every round intense and exciting, with really tough choices. All of your cards are useful and good choices when played at the right time. Lower speed cards do morea lot more! They deal more damage and may also have much more powerful effects. A lower speed card may be as much as 4X as powerful as a higher speed card. By comparison, a high-speed card might deal a single point of damage and not have any effects.

A higher speed card has a better chance to hit, but if you study the math, it turns out that the lower speed cards are a very good deal – it’s worth the risk to play one that can potentially deal massive damage, hinder the Villain, and turn the tide of combat! (See below for an example)

Hand Management

You start with 6 cards in your hand at the start of a Duel. You must carefully consider the appropriate time to play each one, because it’s unlikely you’ll be drawing new ones until the Duel ends. If you use all of your fastest attacks in the first few rounds, you may end up losing all of the final rounds!

Remember, the Villain’s stance gives you a clue as to how powerful or fast his attack might be. When a Villain is in a Subtle stance, it’s better to play a lower speed card and save your higher speed cards for later. But be careful – the Subtle stance is a time for them to do something sneaky!

Some of your cards have special abilities or effects printed on them. It might be better to hold one of these until it is likely to have a more profound effect or is sorely needed. (See below for an example from Weiss' deck)

Some of your cards have Assist abilities printed on them, which is an alternate way to play the card (instead of using them to make an attack). Sideline players will need to make tough choices whether to use the card for an attack or to help an ally in need.

As the end of a Duel approaches, players may have been holding cards and now must decide if it’s the right time to play them, or if the changing circumstances of the battle require a new strategy.

Battle Fury

Another important consideration is your Battle Fury! The Fury system incentivizes leveraging your combat momentum while preventing the villain from gaining the upper hand.

Here’s what that means: Your Fury is a measure of your determination, momentum, and resolve! You earn Fury by hitting with attacks and dealing damage.

Your Fury is represented by a track printed on your Player Tracker Scroll. It goes up one space for each point of damage you deal in an attack. When your Fury is at the top of your track, it’s a good time to play your Ultimate attack! (More on Fury and Ultimates soon.)

Players will want to deal as much damage as possible, as early as possible, in their Duel. That means trying to play the lowest speed card you can still hit with each round in order to deal the most damage and gain the most Fury.

Villains have their own Speed bonus track, printed on the game board. Their attacks and event cards can trigger a Speed increase or other advantage. Some of these are dependent on the Villain hitting you, which is another good reason to try and win every round to prevent the Villain from gaining the upper hand.

Additionally, the villain has his own range of spectacular attacks, and each round there is a risk he may make one of those. The longer you take to finish him off, the better chance he has to gain the upper hand and bash you instead, ending the duel immediately. This creates an intense race between you and the villain, each getting closer to finishing off the other as the tension rises each round!

When Roman Torchwick is in a sneaky Subtle stance, he may throw a smoke bomb and try to escape the duel! You don’t want him to slip away before you build your Fury and finish him with your Ultimate!

As you can see, playing the highest speed card is rarely the optimal move. Instead, you want to conserve your cards and resources, plan to use each card carefully, and think ahead for future rounds to determine just how your Duel is going to play out.

We’ve worked hard to make your decisions interesting, tough, and exciting!
